Vanderpump Rules’ Katie Maloney Explains Awkward Living Situation With Tom Schwartz Amid Their Breakup

The death knell tolled this week for Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz’s 12-year relationship and 2-year marriage. Although Bravo viewers saw them persevere together for nine seasons of Vanderpump Rules despite various issues, the couple’s breakup announcements suggest they’ll be happier apart. In the latest update on their situation, Maloney explained what their living conditions are like – and it seems a bit awkward.

the Vanderpump Rules alum took it you will love me podcast with a new episode titled “The Hardest Decision I’ve Ever Made”. As the title and Tom Schwartz’s own story suggest, the upcoming divorce was apparently at the behest of Katie Maloney. Taking the less sleazy route than others, Maloney revealed that their split has been going on for over a month now, but the two still live together in the Los Angeles home they bought in 2019. She said:

It was emotional, sure, but it was also peaceful and loving. And you know, the transition is going really well so far. We still live together in our house and we’re just trying to get through these stages together. And really work on becoming friends in that way. Obviously we have the same friends and try to spend time together in the group, to get through this and not make the situation awkward for anyone. And not forcing anyone to choose sides is also important to us.

Katie Maloney added that as she and Tom Schwartz adjust to this new normal, their friends are “very supportive”. But still, it must be more than a little tricky living under the same roof, and what, just sleeping in different rooms? Divorce isn’t always easy, I guess, as Kim Kardashian discovered with her own ex.

Speaking about the real reason for the dissolution of the marriage, Vanderpump Rules‘ Katie Maloney was firm that there wasn’t ‘a crazy fight’ that caused it. In fact, she got very emotional and started crying as she described feeling “unfulfilled” by her husband Tom Schwartz. There are obviously “other things” that she felt the “weight” of, but Maloney indicated she won’t want to go into specifics until a later date.

For now, the reality star is making the best of the circumstances. Lots of Katie Maloney Vanderpump Rules the co-stars are in similar boats themselves, so they should all be able to lean on each other. Namely, James Kennedy and Raquel Leviss ended their short-lived engagement last year, and Lala Kent broke up with fiancé Randall Emmett after cheating allegations came to light. Kent is actually struggling with the talks she will have to have with her one-year-old daughter in the future about her father.

As for Katie Maloney, she hinted that it’s hard not to think about their good times as a married couple and guess, saying, “But you know, when everything else inside of you is burning inside of you it tells you – you deserve Continuation.” If you want to relive the early days of Katie Maloney and Tom Schwartz, you can find the first eight seasons of Vanderpump Rules streaming with a Peacock subscription and/or a Hulu subscription.
