Tambuwal rejects consensual arrangement in PDP

JGovernor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwalrejected an arrangement that produced Bukola Saraki and Bala Mohammed as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) northern consensus candidates for next year’s presidential election.

Mr Tambuwal, in a statement from his campaign office, said the arrangement had failed and he was now ready for a primary election.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Tambuwal has submitted his presidential nomination forms and now that the quest for a consensus candidate out of four has clearly collapsed, he will go ahead and face scouting and challenge indeed the presidential primaries of the PDP”, his campaign office. wrote.

PREMIUM TIMES reported that a former Senate Speaker, Bukola Saraki, and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, were chosen as the PDP’s northern consensus candidates.

The duo were shortlisted by the party’s northern leaders ahead of their May 28 presidential primary.

Their emergence was among recommendations made by a committee made up of northern leaders and presidential aspirants from the party.

The recommendations were contained in a statement signed by former Ahmadu Bello University vice-chancellor Ango Abdullahi, Vanguard reports.

Mr. Tambuwal, however, claims that Mr. Abdullahi’s announcement is false.

Besides Messrs. Tambuwal, Saraki and Mohammed, the PDP has other presidential candidates including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra Governor Peter Obi.

Failed to seek consensus, I am not part of any agreement

By Tambuwal Campaign Organization (TCO)

JThe attention of Tambuwal Campaign Organization (TCO) has been drawn to news that former Senate Speaker, Bukola Saraki and Governor Bala Muhammad of Bauchi State have emerged as consensus candidates among us four announced at a meeting in Minna, Niger State.

This is, to be frank and blunt, not correct.

The correct situation is that the team met on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the Governor Bauchi Pavilion in Abuja and held a review meeting; and, unanimously agreed that the consensual arrangement was not working.

The team further agreed that Senator Saraki should come up with a draft statement on how to communicate this decision to the Nigerian public. It was the last time the team members would sit down and agree on anything with each other. The proposed meeting to review and verify the statement scheduled for 10 p.m. the same day was unilaterally canceled by Senator Saraki via WhatsApp message.

However, on Thursday 21 2022 the same Sen Saraki circulated another WhatsApp message suggesting that the team members should travel to Minna for a meeting on Friday Governor Tambuwal contacted other team members and informed them that he supports the team’s decision that the initiative does not work. This is the reason Governor Tambuwal was absent from today’s (Friday) meeting in Minna. Therefore, the outcome of the Minna meeting has no consequence or implication on the aspiration of Governor Tambuwal, who had previously informed his colleagues to maintain their agreed position that the initiative has collapsed.

Members of the public should be reminded that what was solicited was a consensus candidate and not consensus candidates.

For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Tambuwal has submitted his presidential nomination forms and now that the quest for a consensus candidate out of four has clearly collapsed, he will go ahead and face the selection and indeed contest the PDP presidential primaries.

This is in keeping with his acclaimed vision as a pan-Nigerian candidate, with a national service pedigree as Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, life member of the Corps of Counselors and now in his second and final term as as Governor of Sokoto State. .
