HICKORY — The next eight-week Furniture Fundamentals course at the Catawba Valley Community College Furniture Academy is open for enrollment.
This course starts on October 18 and continues until December 14. It takes place Monday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
This Furniture Fundamentals class will be offered at the Bassett Learning Center at the Catawba Valley Furniture Academy (CVFA), located at 973 Locust St. in Newton, and costs $245, including textbook.
Individuals who have taken the Furniture Fundamentals course can enroll in one of seven disciplines: Hand Cutting, Automated Cutting, Pattern Making, Sewing, Spring (8 position hand tie), Interior Upholstery and Exterior Upholstery .
With the furniture industry continuing to grow, the need for skilled employees is critical to a company’s ability to have continued success. Furniture Fundamentals is the first class in the CVCC’s journey to achieve the level of proficiency required by these industry partners. At the end of this course, the student will receive a certificate and choose the qualified path that he wishes to establish as a career. Hands-on training is provided and skilled craftsmen from the industry instruct the students.
Upon successful completion of the chosen career path, a certificate will be awarded. These certificates are the start of a new career.
