Registration Open for Furniture Fundamentals Course at CVCC | Local News

HICKORY — The next eight-week Furniture Fundamentals course at the Catawba Valley Community College Furniture Academy is open for enrollment.

This course starts on May 3 and continues until June 28. It takes place Monday to Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

This Furniture Fundamentals class will be offered at the Bassett Learning Center at the Catawba Valley Furniture Academy (CVFA), located at 973 Locust St. in Newton, and costs $245, including textbook.

Governor’s Emergency Education Assistance (GEER) scholarship opportunities are also available on the CVCC website at

Individuals who have completed the Furniture Fundamentals course can enroll in one of seven disciplines – hand cutting, automated cutting, pattern making, sewing, spring (eight-way hand tie), interior upholstery and exterior upholstery. These courses begin on June 21.

With the furniture industry continuing to grow, the need for skilled employees is critical to a company’s ability to have continued success. Furniture Fundamentals is the first class in a journey to achieve the level of proficiency required by these industry partners. At the end of this course, the student will receive a certificate and choose the qualified path that he wishes to establish as a career. Hands-on training is provided, with industry-skilled artisans instructing students. Upon successful completion of the student’s chosen career path, a certificate will be awarded. These certificates are the start of a new career, which offers great benefits and above-average income as skill level increases to meet industry needs.
