Presidential aspirants from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recently visited Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel and made suggestions to field a consensus presidential candidate for the 2023 elections.

The meeting was held Monday evening at Government House in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom.

The delegation includes the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed; his counterpart from Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal; former Senate President Bukola Saraki and Muhammad Hayatuddeen.

Commenting on the meeting, Governor Emmanuel welcomed the delegation to the state, affirmed his support for the ‘One Nigeria’ course and stressed the need to build a team of patriots to meet the nation’s challenges in time.

According to him, the task of saving Nigeria was far beyond individualism and partisanship, rather it required a team that can wake up and say enough of certain things and then put things in the right perspective, to save and restore the country, as a team.

Governor Emmanuel described the delegation as a people who love Nigeria, saying he looks forward to what can be done about the current poor situation in the country.

“This is the time when we have to look within and reassess and then look at some things that we need to do and do it right and in a timely manner.

“That’s why you see this caliber of people coming together to try to find consensus and find common ground to say that we are all but one.

“We have no other country to go to. This is the essence of all meetings,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation after a closed meeting, Saraki thanked Governor Emmanuel for hosting the delegation and hailed his patriotism and commitment to uniting the party and championing the One Nigeria agenda.

Saraki described Governor Emmanuel as a key player in the party and said the meeting was aimed at informing the Governor of Akwa Ibom of the determination to put the interest of the country first in his quest for the highest post and to unite the party.

“We have traveled the country and we are here to meet Governor Udom Emmanuel as a key stakeholder, to inform him of our intention to find a way to unite and bring the country and the party to the fore and to inform him. of our intention to have a consensual agreement, because that is what we believe will make the party stronger,” Saraki said.

“We all agreed that where we are now in Nigeria, it has become very important that we prepare well for 2023 and we can only do that when we are selfless and united. That is why we are here,” said he added.

The former Senate Speaker therefore expressed his optimism that only the PDP can reverse the insecurity currently plaguing Nigerians.

He explained that while each of them had individual ambitions, the ambition to unite Nigeria, save it from insecurity and economic instability, is a bigger ambition.
