New Choices plans to buy furniture

New Choices will use Match Day gifts to purchase sustainable furniture for the rooms in its shelter.

SIDNEY – New Choices, an organization that helps victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse find help, shelter and safety. He participates in the Community Foundation’s Match Day and will use donations to purchase commercial-grade furniture for his shelter.

“Since the beginning of COVID, we have provided additional shelters in the rooms in order to accommodate more customers. We now need dressers, nightstands, mattresses and bed frames for these bedrooms,” said New Choices General Manager Danielle Sweitzer. “Our current furniture is very worn and needs to be replaced with something more durable to withstand the heavy traffic and wear and tear.

“Leaving your home to enter a shelter can be very scary. Our goal at New Choices is to provide a welcoming and comfortable space for victims of domestic violence and their families to support their transition to a life free of violence. New commercial-grade furniture will help us achieve this goal. »

To support New Choices on game day, donations should be made payable to the Community Foundation of Shelby County with: Match/New Choices noted on the memo or in an accompanying note or form. Details and forms are available on the Community Foundation website at commfoun.com and by contacting any new choice at [email protected] Gifts must be received by November 29 to be eligible for matching money. Gifts by credit card can only be made on November 29.

The Community Foundation of Shelby County holds its annual Match Day event on Giving Tuesday. This year, 25 local charities will ask their supporters to donate to the Community Foundation which will be matched up to a total of $5,000 per charity.

Organizations participating in Match Day have 501(c)(3) tax status and an organizational fund within the Community Foundation of Shelby County with an asset balance above the Foundation’s fund minimum. Donations received will not be placed into an organization’s fund, but rather will be returned to the organization for its work in the community.
