April 13 (THEWILL) – Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has criticized moves for a consensus presidential candidate in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Some PDP presidential aspirants from the north, including a former Senate Speaker, Bukola Saraki, Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, among others, have been at the forefront of the clamor for a consensus presidential candidate. for the party.
But addressing PDP delegates and members on Wednesday in Calabar, Cross River state, Wike, a PDP presidential aspirant, described the consensus plan as “fake news” used to mislead party members.
Wike, who said consensus could only be achieved through fairness, justice and fairness, recalled telling “a former president of the Senate” that he would not support an impeachment by consensus in the PDP.
He said: “I’m not here for consensus garbage. I told people not to mislead our party members with fake consensus news. We all believe in consensus, but with it comes fairness, justice and fairness.
“When some of my colleagues, led by the former president of the Senate, came to see me, I told them that I would not fall into the consensus trap. If you want to run for office, please run, and if you’re not ready, please go home.
“They want someone who would come and bow down for them. But what the country needs now is someone fearless and courageous.
